WEEK 3 - Photo basics

Week 3 - Composition

I chose to highlight texture, framing and rule of thirds/texture for this week's assignment.
First up is the rule of thirds combined with texture.  There are over 120 barn quilts in this particular county in Wisconsin and this was one of my favorites. Canon 5d, ISO 640, 50mm, f16, 1/160

Next - texture.  Beech log in the woods - lots of forest greenery.  Canon 5d, ISO 640, 85mm, f5, 1/200s

Last is framing - this is my kiddo in her favorite tunnel at the zoo playground.  ISO 500, 85mm, f9, 1/400s

  1. Wahoo! So many great images here! You've done so well in searching for great composition! I especially love your first shot with the barn (I'm a sucker for barns...I live in a rural area and love it!). Choosing to put your horizon line in the bottom third of the image makes it have a striking balance and use of the rule of thirds.

I love the final shot with the use of framing and shapes too! Those tubes at the park are so fun, but so hard for lighting! You may have noticed a color casting on the skin?? One way to avoid that is to have her face the opening of the slide so there is less color reflection from the tube. Such a fun photo!
